Washington D.C.

District Doughnut

May 2016

What a lovely stroll through the Nation’s Capital! District Doughnut is situated just a 20 minute walk from the Capitol building which makes it a great stop to start your morning of touring around DC. I actually find myself in Washington D.C. for work every so often so I make it a point to get over to District Doughnut whenever I can.

The shop I went to is a very nicely branded doughnut shop with a few tables outside and a bit of seating inside. It’s in the area called “Barracks Row” and located directly across from the Marine Barracks with guards stationed outside, reminding you exactly where you are.

The donut display here is one of the best I’ve seen! Rather than just listing out a boring menu, they had every single donut that was on their menu out next to the cashier with a little flag on each saying what the donut was. They rotate their specials so depending on when you go you are going to be looking at a whole batch of new donuts and flavors.

I was immediately drawn to the fluffernutter. One of my favorite childhood (and adult) meals! Just like the sandwich, this donut is basically impossible to eat without getting it everywhere and leaving your hands sticky. I was hoping for a filling in this one (it was totally covered so I couldn’t tell it was a holed-out donut with all the toppings) but the fluff and peanut butter all around it did end up being plenty!

The other highlight here was the creme-brulee donut because you can watch them create it right in front of your face. They have the donut basically ready to go and then put a torch to it right before serving it to you which is a fun and nice touch! Their hashtag is also #DoughFace which is pretty funny.

Overall a great stop in DC!
