Long’s Bakery

August 2016

This is the epitome of the local, old-fashioned doughnut shop. The workers even have uniforms on of white aprons and paper hats. This bakery is churning out hot and fresh no-nonsense donuts all throughout the day.

I was driving through Indianapolis on my way back home to Chicago from a work trip in Ohio and knew I had to stop here on the way. Sometimes it’s tough finding the go-to donut shop in a state but for Indiana it seemed quite clear. Long’s Bakery was THE shop that I had to go to so I was glad it was easily accessible off the highway as I drove through Indy!

I arrived mid-morning, well after the bakery had opened, and still found a line, at least a dozen deep, inside the shop. From the setup inside I could tell there is always a line in there too. The line moved quickly though and I was in for a very pleasant surprise when I looked up at the menu. The donuts were 57 cents each!!! What a deal. While these were not the largest donuts you will ever purchase, they were fresh and they were cheap! The can’t-miss donut here is their yeast glazed donut which I had read definitely gives Krispy Kreme a run for its money (which if you know me is a huge deal). It came out piping hot and did not disappoint! Hot, fresh, and melty, just as it should be! The blueberry cake donut and cinnamon bun were both perfectly soft and chewy as well. Needless to say, no part of these donuts made it back into the car for the rest of my drive as I had initially planned. This place is one of my favorite shops for those looking for the classic, old-fashioned style donuts. If I lived near Long’s Bakery, it would be dangerous for me!
