The first Donuts for a Difference was held on April 14th, 2019. The goal of the event was to raise money for a good cause while eating donuts from all over Chicago. I was joined by some awesome friends who helped make year one a big success!
The event was essentially a blind taste test between a few of Chicago’s top donut spots featuring four flavors: Glazed, Sprinkle, Old-Fashioned, and Chocolate.
Here are the shops that were involved:
Do-Rite Donuts
Doughnut Vault
Dunkin Donuts
Firecakes
Stan’s Donuts
How it Worked
The tasting consisted of sampling each of the four kinds of donut from all 5 shops. There was a glazed round, an old-fashioned round, a sprinkle round, and a chocolate round. The samples were given out without a label so the tasting actually could be done blind. After each round everyone ranked their top 3 donuts and all the votes were tallied up. By the end, we had a winner from each category and there were quite a few donuts eaten!
That’s a Wrap
The first ever Donuts for a Difference definitely became the first annual Donuts for a Difference by the end of the day. I’m also still fundraising and always appreciate anything you can donate! Check out the fundraising page here. I’d be happy to host a custom donut sampling anytime - just let me know! I already have some ideas for what 2020 will involve so stay tuned for year two of Donuts for a Difference!
