  1. How do you choose your donut place for each state?

My initial 50 state Donut Bucket List started by combining a whole bunch of “best of” individual state and country lists. From there, before going to each state I try and vet it with as many sources as possible including friend recommendations, google, yelp, reddit, and anything else that might help show me what is actually going to be the best donut shop in the state (rather than one that just pays for marketing or looks the best on instagram). If there end up being a few in each state, I will make sure to try them all and personally decide my favorite and place that one the Donut Bucket List.

  2. How do you rate the donut shops?

There isn’t anything too scientific about my ranking system, it really just all comes down to taste. I don’t take into account getting to the shop, the line, the price, or any other external factors like that. I just go with the actual donuts themselves and how good they are. Fresh, flavorful, and hot all definitely help the rankings! I also am personally a bit biased towards filled donuts, so as long as all those other boxes are checked a good filling can put it over the top for sure!

  3. Why do you have multiple donut shops in some states?

My list is always evolving. I don’t want to just try one and be done. I want to try the best! In some cases I have been lucky enough to return to some state with a new donut place to try (based on a recommendation or updated listing) or when I am going to a state for the first time and a few shops all come highly recommended, I want to be sure to personally try them all. I always only add my favorite shop to the overall list though. I am happy to include the others as a shoutout on my list though because it’s always fun when I get to try multiple shops in a single state. My primary goal is to make sure I get to at least one in all 50 states though so I can complete my Donut Bucket List.

  4. How many states have you been to?

I have visited 25 states (plus D.C.) so far - halfway there!

  5. How long have you been doing this?

My first Donut Bucket List trip was back in March of 2016 in Massachusetts. We’ll see how long it takes me to make my way across the country to finish it out!

  6. Have you planned out all your trips?

I have not planned out all my remaining Donut Bucket List trips yet but try and make sure I make it to at least a few every year. Take a look at my upcoming trips to see what I have planned for the rest of the year and let me know your thoughts!

  7. Why Donuts?

Donuts are delicious. If you know me at all you know that I have a bit of a sweet-tooth and donuts are definitely my favorite dessert (and by dessert I mean food to eat literally any time of the day - they are so versatile)! What’s not to like!?
